“There are differences between Asians and U.S. business travelers,” says Professor Chattopadhyay. His findings show that for Asians, the public space in the hotel design matters. The lobby has to look grand and the type of guests in the lobby must be people that they want to be associated with. In comparison, the private space (such as the hotel room) matters a lot more for the U.S. business travelers. “I guess it’s because Asian consumers care a lot about perception, who and what you are, so the public space is more important to them.”
